The Journey to Safety: How Evacuation Support Actually Works

When people imagine evacuation, they imagine a single dramatic moment: a border crossing, a stamped passport. The reality is weeks of quiet, painstaking work — and it is work most families cannot navigate alone.

Motaz Foundation's safe passage and evacuation program exists for exactly this. Our case workers manage the full journey: verifying documents, securing medical clearances for patients, coordinating with border authorities and international agencies, and covering costs that would otherwise make the journey impossible.

Who we prioritize

Capacity is limited, so the program triages ruthlessly and transparently: urgent medical cases first — patients who need surgery, dialysis, or cancer treatment unavailable in Gaza — then unaccompanied children being reunited with relatives, then families with documented sponsorship abroad.

After the border

A safe journey does not end at the crossing. The program hands families over to partner organizations at the destination — for housing, medical follow-up, school registration, and legal support. For families relocating to relatives in the EU, USA, or across the MENA region, that handover is the difference between arriving and actually landing on their feet.
